Sandia Mountain trails are easily accessible from the city. There are five trailheads on the west slope of the mountain. Since a one-way trek of South Crest trail would cover roughly 15 miles,
we decided to take the Sandia Peak Tram up to the crest and hike down. We left one vehicle at the Embudito Canyon trailhead (just east of Tramway and Montgomery), then proceeded with a second
vehicle to the lower tram terminal, just a few miles further north on Tramway Boulevard.
