We move in and out of forest glens along our journey. As we near the South Peak area, we pass through a canopy of aspens. The elevation is about 9,200 feet here, and the trail will climb
only 300 feet more for the remainder of our trek to the peak.
Two common-sense reminders: There is always a fire danger in the Sandia, so don't be careless with matches. And always remember to carry out what you carry in. Don't litter, please!
